Description
St. Matthew was one of the 12 apostles and also one of the four Gospel writers. He is symbolized by a winged man, or angel, which symbolizes Jesus’s incarnation. This description is seen in a vision of the four Gospel writers from the prophet Ezekiel. This cold-cast bronze statue is lightly hand-painted and depicts Matthew holding a quill and parchment paper. A small angel stands by his side. St. Matthew’s name can be seen written at the base of this 8 inch statue. Part of the Veronese Collection.
